Impacted Wisdom Tooth Extraction

What Happens During Wisdom Tooth Extraction?
The procedure usually includes the following steps:
1. Examination and Imaging
We check the position of the wisdom tooth using dental X-rays.
If the tooth is close to important structures such as nerves or the maxillary sinus, CT imaging may also be performed.
2. Local Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is used so that you should not feel sharp pain during the procedure.
You may still feel pressure or movement while the tooth is being removed.
3. Tooth Extraction
For simple cases, the tooth can often be removed directly.
For impacted wisdom teeth, a small incision may be made in the gum, and part of the surrounding bone may need to be removed. The tooth may also be divided into smaller pieces to allow safer removal.
4. Cleaning and Suturing
After the tooth is removed, the extraction site is cleaned.
Stitches may be placed when necessary.
How Long Does Wisdom Tooth Extraction Take?
The treatment time depends on the position and difficulty of the tooth.
A simple wisdom tooth extraction may be completed relatively quickly, while impacted wisdom teeth may require more time.

It often becomes more noticeable during the first few days after surgery and gradually improves afterward.

Possible Risks and Complications
Although wisdom tooth extraction is a common procedure, complications can occur.

Upper Wisdom Teeth and the Maxillary Sinus
The roots of upper wisdom teeth may be located close to the maxillary sinus.
In some cases, extraction can create a small opening between the mouth and the sinus.
We evaluate the position of the tooth before treatment and explain the potential risks when appropriate.
After Wisdom Tooth Extraction
After your extraction, please follow these general instructions:
* Bite gently on the gauze as instructed
* Avoid touching the extraction site with your fingers or tongue
* Avoid vigorous rinsing on the day of extraction
* Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive alcohol consumption immediately after treatment
* Take prescribed medication as directed
* Maintain good oral hygiene while avoiding direct irritation of the extraction site
We will provide specific postoperative instructions based on your condition.
When Should You Contact Us After Extraction?

For example, if you visit our clinic for the first time and have a horizontally impacted wisdom tooth removed, the total cost is approximately ¥11,000 with Japanese health insurance.
The actual cost may vary depending on the condition of the tooth and the treatment required.
For Patients without Japanese Health Insurance
For patients without Japanese health insurance, the fee for wisdom tooth extraction is:
¥44,000 per tooth
This fee includes:

A follow-up visit for suture removal is ¥1,100 per visit.
